Wet Weather Reminders

Dear Stride Families,

We hope this message finds you well! With our recent cold and wet weather, and with more expected to come, we wanted to take a moment to remind everyone in the community about Stride’s All-Weather Recess and Lunch Policy.

Our commitment to providing a safe, inclusive and enriching learning environment extends to all aspects of the school day, including recess and lunchtime. The All-Weather Policy is in place to ensure that our students have the opportunity for outdoor play and fresh air, even when the weather is less than ideal. Outdoor activities contribute significantly to the overall well-being of our students, promoting physical health, social interaction, and a readiness for learning. Student should expect to be going outside every day with rare exceptions for extreme weather.

How to best prepare your child for the weather:

  1. Dress in Layers: Encourage your child to wear layers during colder days. This helps them stay warm during outdoor activities and allows for adjustments if the weather changes.
  2. Waterproof Gear: On rainy days, please ensure your child comes to school with a rain-ready jacket and appropriate footwear. This helps to keep them dry and comfortable.
  3. A Change of Clothing: Please make sure your child has an extra set of clothing at school for those days when they accidentally get very wet or dirty outside.
  4. Sun Protection: On sunny days, apply sunscreen to protect your child’s skin. Send them to school with a hat and sunglasses for added sun safety.
  5. Label Belongings: With the potential for changing weather conditions, please label your child’s belongings, including jackets, hats, and gloves. This ensures that lost items can be easily returned. If your child is ever missing any clothing items, they are collected in the Lost and Found, located near the Community Room.

Keep an eye on the weather forecast and communicate with your child about what to expect. This helps them mentally prepare for the day and choose appropriate clothing.

We understand that weather conditions can be unpredictable, but with your cooperation, we can make sure that our students enjoy a safe and enjoyable recess and lunch experience throughout the year. If you have any questions or concerns, or could use assistance with any of the above, feel free to reach out to the school office.

Thank you for your ongoing support in creating a positive and nurturing learning environment for all our students!
